Tory MP Bill Wiggin calls Cadbury workers 'Whingers'

The Tory Party’s mask has slipped with the news that a Conservative MP has dismissed as “whingers” those British workers who have expressed fear for their job security at Cadbury after the proposed Kraft takeover, said Solidarity secretary-general Pat Harrington.

“This type of remark shows clearly what the Conservative Party actually think,” Mr Harrington said, referring to Tory MP Bill Wiggin’s remarks on BBC Hereford and Worcester.

“Let us hope that Mr Wiggins loses his job at the next election and doesn’t whine about it,” Mr Harrington added.

Mr Wiggin, whose Leominster constituency in Herefordshire includes Cadbury’s Marlbrook plant, said in response to queries: “Who wants to hire a whinging workforce when you can have a positive upbeat one?”

Mr Wiggin, an ex-banker who is personal friends with Tory leader David Cameron, went on to say that staff should stop complaining about the Kraft takeover even though it could lead to a number of redundancies.

“I have heard workers complaining about the US firm’s takeover. I worry that by sending out such negative signals it puts people’s jobs more at risk.

“No-one wants to hire a whinging workforce when you could have a positive upbeat one.”
