Harriet Harman praises immigrants who send social security benefits to their overseas families as ‘heroic’

Harriet Harman has described immigrants who are on welfare and send money back home to their overseas families as ‘heroic’.

She has said that they should be given tax breaks on their benefits so they can send even more money abroad to their families. In an address to her constituency the Labour party deputy leader said those who send cash back to Africa were hidden heroes.

The Conservative deputy chairman Michael Fallon has challenged Labour leader Ed Miliband to make his position clear on this matter.
“Does he agree that welfare bills are too high or does he back Harriet Harman and think it is right that welfare payments are generous enough to allow people to send them abroad?”

Mr Fallon’s view on this is probably closer to the public opinion than that of Harriet Harman who has done the political right wing elements a huge favour in opening up a debate on something that has until now been out of the mainstream arena.

At at time when the nation’s purse strings are being tightened and Britain is struggling to fund its benefit system Harriet Harman’s comments are quite barmy.

Whilst we are watching our children protest against any further burdening on them for debt that is not theirs, the deputy Labour leader plots to increase the amount of benefits sent overseas by finding ways for other countries to receive remittances from Britain.
Helping to undermine an economy that has already ring-fenced overseas development is ludicrous.

But it does open the debate up that anyone who can afford to send benefits payments to overseas families may be getting money by other means whilst in this country and not paying tax on it.

Funds that remain in Britain also have much higher chance of being spent in Britain. This has a positive effect on the economy in particular with local businesses who are the recipients of those funds.

Bizarrely she claimed the practice – widely seen as an abuse of the overstretched welfare system – was a way of boosting international aid.
Taxpayers foot a £20million annual bill to pay child benefit to immigrants whose children are not even living in Britain.

Her views have left Labour leader Ed Miliband with a fresh headache. Last night his aides pointedly refused to say whether he backed her views. The Tories dismissed Miss Harman’s claims as proof that Labour was out of touch with the public on the need to slash welfare costs.

Labour’s deputy leader, who is also the party’s spokesman on international development, made the comments at a meeting in her Camberwell and Peckham constituency in South London. Miss Harman, sometimes referred to as the MP for Lagos because of her high number of Nigerian-born constituents, said she had been impressed by how many were sending benefits cash back home.

Last year British taxpayers funded child benefit payments for more than 50,000 children outside the UK, 37,900 of them in Poland.

Senior Tories endorsed the right of immigrants to send a portion of their wages to relatives back home but stressed that the government is already putting record funds into international aid, ring-fencing the budget while other departments face cuts.

Suicide bombers allowed free movement, American citizens banned from UK

Home secretary Theresa May is under pressure to close the UK's borders to a Florida pastor who threatened to burn copies of the Qur'an.

The American preacher who planned a mass burning of the Qur'an on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks could be banned from entering Britain under incitement and national security laws.

Terry Jones, a pentecostal preacher, is to address the far-right group, the English Defence League (EDL), about "the evils of Islam" at a rally in Luton in February.

Theresa May, the home secretary, is under intense pressure to ban Jones and said she was "actively looking" at the case. She said Jones had "been on her radar for a few months" and, as home secretary, she could ban his entry if he was a threat to national security.

A statement on Jones's website said: "During the protest, Dr Terry Jones will speak against the evils and destructiveness of Islam in support of the continued fight against the Islamification of England and Europe." The EDL said it was "proud to announce" that Jones would be attending its "biggest demonstration to date".

The home secretary has the power to exclude or deport Jones if his presence in the UK could threaten national security, public order or the safety of citizens, or if she believes his views glorify terrorism, promote violence or encourage other serious crime.

However, any eventual decision by May could be reversed. Last year, the ban imposed by the Home Office on the Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders was overturned at an immigration tribunal.

Britain's security services are investigating the UK connections of the suicide bomber who struck Stockholm on Saturday night (11 December 2010).

Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born Swede, who set off a car bomb in the Swedish capital before killing himself with a second bomb strapped to his body, had a BSc in sports therapy from the University of Bedfordshire in 2004, and had spent some time in Luton in recent years. Well-placed Whitehall officials confirmed the bomber's identity and his link to a British university.

According to the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, he had travelled to Britain and Jordan in the runup to Saturday's attack, in which he was the only victim.
On an Islamic dating site, Muslima.com, where he was seeking a second wife, Abdaly, 29, listed Luton as his address, and said he met his first wife in Bedfordshire.

However, his car was registered in Sweden, and the motives declared in emails sent to a Swedish news agency and the security police, addressed local issues. The emails refer to a Swedish cartoonist, Lars Vilks, whose 2007 drawing of the Prophet Muhammad as a dog infuriated Muslims around the world, and to Sweden's 500 soldiers in Afghanistan. "Now your children, daughters and sisters shall die like our brothers and sisters and children are dying," the email warned.

The car bomb caught fire but did not explode and caused minimal damage in a busy Stockholm shopping street. Only one of several bombs Abdaly had strapped to his body blew up, killing him but nobody else.

British security and intelligence sources suggested Abdaly was one of an increasing number of individuals influenced by al-Qaida extremist ideology who have spent time in the UK.

The fascist movement Hope Not Hate launched a petition to ban Jones as "a preacher of hate". Nick Lowles, editor of Searchlight magazine, and the campaign's co-ordinator, said: "[His] presence in Luton will be incendiary and highly dangerous. He will attract and encourage thousands of English Defence League supporters to take to the streets of Luton.

"Like the EDL, Pastor Jones indiscriminately targets all Muslims and their actions can only lead to increased tensions and racism in our communities....
Pastor Jones, a preacher of hate, must be stopped from entering the UK."

Yet the fascist organisation has said nothing regarding the thousands of potential islamic terrorists that pass freely across the borders of Europe training and recruiting potential suiced bombers. Nor have they expressed any concern about islamic terrorists who 'targets all non Muslims and their actions can only lead to increased tensions and racism in our communities...'

If anything it is Nick Lowles of Searchlight and Hope not Hate that pose the threat to national security and should be closely monitored.

Why the UK needs to adopt the Swiss policy of deporting immigrant criminals

The jailing of Harpreet Aulakh, 32, an Indian-born Sikh, Jaswant Singh Dhillon, also known as Taljit Singh, 30, and Sher Singh, 19, an Indian illegal immigrant, for the murder of Geeta Aulakh because she was going to divorce Harpreet Aulakh highlights why the UK should now be deporting immigrants who commit serious crime.

Geeta Aulakh was ambushed after work on November 16 last year as she walked the few hundred metres from a bus stop in Greenford, west London, to collect the couple's two young sons from their childminder.
She was attacked on a street corner with a 14-inch machete and suffered appalling injuries to her head and body. Her right hand was severed as she tried to defend herself.

These 3 murderers are career criminals, Harpreet Aulakh paid for the assassination of his wife and arranged for himself to be filmed on cctv in a pub at the exact time of the assassination.

Sher Singh gained entry to the UK on a forged student visa only 4 months before the assassination and had already notched up a string of criminal offences including drugs and immigration scams.

The UK government has been telling the people of the UK how tolerant we are for years, disregarding our fears and concerns, its about time we let the government know that we are not going to tolerate immigrant murderers, assassins, drug dealers, scammers and other criminals who enter our country.

These people will released from prison one day and be allowed to stay in the UK, this applies to the illegal immigrant who gained entry to the UK by criminal means in the first place by using a bogus student visa, he will no doubt be given a UK passport when released from prison.

We do not want these people in our society, its about time we let the government know this.

Lying Cheat Phil Woolas loses Smear Campaign legal battle

Former Labour MP Phil Woolas's hopes of regaining his seat have been dashed after he failed in a High Court bid to overturn a decision stripping him of his Commons seat.
Mr Woolas, who is banned from standing for election for three years, said there is no avenue open to him to mount a further challenge. The ex-minister said: "That is the end, I am out - which I think is unfair and, more importantly, my 70,000 voters will think it is unfair."

Three senior judges rejected his legal challenge against the November 5 decision of a specially convened election court declaring void the 2010 general election result in Oldham East and Saddleworth.
In the first judgment of its kind in 99 years, the election court ruled that Mr Woolas was guilty of deliberately lying about Liberal Democrat rival Elwyn Watkins. Later Mr Watkins welcomed the decision, declaring it "a victory for the people of Oldham and Saddleworth".

The election court judges had found comments made by Mr Woolas in election campaign statements clearly amounted to attacks on Mr Watkins's "personal character or conduct", in breach of Section 106 of the Representation of the People Act.
The former immigration minister had accused Mr Watkins of trying to "woo" the votes of Muslims who advocated violence, and refusing to condemn extremists who advocated violence against Mr Woolas himself.

Imposing the three-year ban, the election court held that Mr Woolas, who beat Mr Watkins by just 103 votes in a bitter campaign, had "no reasonable grounds for believing (the statements) to be true and did not believe them to be true". Mr Watkins's legal team had described Mr Woolas's election strategy as being "of the basest kind", stirring up racial tensions in an area that had seen race riots in 2001.

At the High Court, lawyers for Mr Woolas argued in a two-day hearing last month that the election court judges had misdirected themselves on the true meaning and effect of the words "personal character or conduct".

But Lord Justice Thomas, Mr Justice Tugendhat and Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, sitting in London, declared that Mr Woolas had rightly been found guilty of "illegal practice". The judges said statements made by Mr Woolas about Mr Watkins were "a serious personal attack on a candidate by saying he condoned violence by extremists and refused to condemn those who advocated violence."

Mr Watkins said: "This judgment makes it clear once again that if you knowingly lie in your election campaign and deceive your constituents you should be kicked out of Parliament... Now it is time to move on and for the by-election to take place. The people of Oldham East and Saddleworth have been without an MP for long enough."

Former Labour MP David Chaytor admits expenses fraud

Former Labour MP David Chaytor has pleaded guilty to fraud charges, becoming the first politician to be convicted over his expenses claims.
Chaytor, 61, who was MP for Bury North, admitted three charges of false accounting at the Old Bailey on Friday involving expenses claims totalling around £20,000.

He was granted unconditional bail and will be sentenced on January 17 after changing his plea ahead of a trial which was due to start Monday.
Chaytor stood down as an MP at the general election after stories about his expenses emerged in the press, apologising for what he called an "unforgivable error" in his accounting.

He had claimed £12,925 between 2005 and 2006 for rent on a flat in Regency Street, near Westminster, but it turned out he owned the property. He had produced a tenancy agreement falsely showing he was paying £1,175 a month in rent.

Between 2007 and 2008 he also falsely claimed £5,425 for renting a home in Bury -- again producing false documents -- when the property was actually owned by his mother.
A third charge related to falsely charging £1,950 for IT support services in May 2006 -- money which was not paid to him.

The charge said that he supplied two invoices for professional services from a man named as Paul France "when in fact the services had not been provided or charged for".
Three other former MPs and two members of the House of Lords are due to face separate trials over their expenses claims.
